2000 Olympic Games

Sydney, Australia

Result: Seventh

Canada (5-2) won its pool with a 4-1 record, the lone loss coming in the game against Russia. Their preliminary round upset over Yugoslavia set up a quarter-final match against France. The French team advanced to the medal round with a 68-63 win, relegating the Canadian squad to the battle for seventh place.

Canada regained their composure and won a thrilling double-overtime victory (86-83) victory over Russia in the seventh-place game. Russia led the game 47-36 two minutes into the second half, but Canada then went on a 19-0 run to take a lead which they held until 1:34 left in regulation. Steve Nash scored eight of Canada's ten points in the second overtime, with Todd McCullough draining two free throws to seal the victory.
