CCAA CROWNS MARINERS (MEN) & NOMADES (WOMEN)

CCAA – The VIU Mariners of Nanaimo, B.C. are taking home gold from the 2013 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship.

It is their first men's basketball national title since 1994, after winning bronze in 2011.

It was a hard-fought victory from the Holland Hurricanes of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The two teams tied at various times throughout the match, with VIU ultimately pulling ahead 77-70.

The Langara Falcons of Vancouver, B.C. will take home the bronze, earning their first national medal since taking home gold in 1999. They overcame the Sheridan Bruins of Brampton, Ont. in overtime with a final socre of 99-93.

CCAA – The Nomades de Montmorency of Laval, Que. have won the national trophy at the 2013 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship in Truro, N.S.The title has gone to a Quebec team for the past eight years, with the Nomades earning three of those titles. They also took it home in 2011 and 2006.

The Dawson Blues of Montreal, Que. earned their second consecutive silver medal in the final game with a final score of 58-42.

The Olds Broncos of Olds, Alta. bring home bronze with a win over the St Thomas Tommies of Fredericton, N.B., at 72-65. It caps off an enormously successful inaugural season for the program.
