Groups Set For The Fiba Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers

TORONTO, ON (May 7, 2017) - Canada's Senior Men's National Team has been placed in Group D for the first round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers, along with the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and the US Virgin Islands.

In the first round of the Americas Qualifiers, each team will face the other three teams in their group on a home and away basis, with two games being played in each window - November 2017, February 2018 and June 2018. The schedule for the first round here.

The top three teams from each group will progress to the second round where they will join three teams from another group, carrying over their results from the first round. These twelve teams will compete over another three windows - September 2018, November 2018 and February 2019.

The top three teams for each group, along with the fourth best team overall, will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. More information on the Americas Qualifiers here.

32 teams from around the globe will participate in the World Cup, which will be held in China across 8 different cities from August 31 - September 15, 2019. More information on the World Cup here.

Canada, currently ranked 24th in the world, will get its first test against its zone competitors this summer at the 2017 AmeriCup in Bahi­a Blanca, Argentina. They will face Argentina (6th), Venezuela (15th), and the Virgin Islands (59th) in the group stage from August 27-29. More information on the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 here.
