Birch sat out the Fall semester following his transfer from the University of Pittsburgh and has been a solid presence in the paint alongside fellow Canadian Anthony Bennett. UNLV got off to a hot start, opening the season on a 12-1 run including one game where Birch posted 20 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. A few more games like that and Birch will be playing deep into the NCAA tournament.
