"We were beaten by a strong USA team that shot the lights out tonight,” said Canada's head coach, Carly Clarke. “We executed our game plan early but they wore us down towards the end of the first half and we were unable to rebound from it.

We are extremely proud of what this team has accomplished and to bring home the silver medal. "

A seesaw first quarter saw 8 ties and 10 lead changes, with neither team ahead by more than three points. Jerome scored eight points early as Canada jumped in front 17-14, before Team USA closed the opening period on a 9-3 run to go in front 23-20.

The United States continued its surge, opening the second period with an 8-0 run to grab the first double-digit lead of the game. Brewer tried to keep her team in the game, scoring eight points in the quarter, but Canada found itself trailing 51-34 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Team USA more than doubled its lead, out-scoring Canada 33-14 to go in front 84-48 with 10 minutes remaining. The Americans won the fourth quarter, 25-14.

Prior to Sunday's contest, Team Canada was 4-0 at Americas, winning its games by an average of 27 points.

The second-place finish equals Canada's best results in the history of FIBA Americas U18 Women's Championships. By finishing in the top four at this tournament, Canada qualifies for next summer's FIBA U19 Women's World Championships.
