CANADA FINISHES SECOND IN NIKE GLOBAL CHALLENGE
In D.C. Armory, Washington D.C. the Canadian team made a great run to Nike Global Challenge final where they met USA Mid-West. In a very competitive game, Canada gave USA Mid-West all they could handle, with the game being a four point lead for the USA heading into the fourth it was truely anyone's game to take. In the end Canada fell short on their fourth quarter come-back as they fell to USA Mid-West, 100-86.
Canada was led by Andrew Wiggins and Trey Lyles who also starred on the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Wiggins finished with 24 points and seven rebounds, while Trey Lyles scored 21 points and five rebounds in the game.
With both Andrew Wiggins and Trey Lyles having such great tournaments, they were named to the International All-Tournament Team and they were also Co-MVP’s in the tournament.
The Canadian team featured seven players from the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team (Matthew Atewe, Tyler Ennis, Trey Lyles, Duane Notice, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Denzell Taylor and Andrew Wiggins) and also three players from the Cadet Men’s National Team (Christopher Egi, Marial Shayok and Kevin Zabo). In the opening game of the quick tournament, Canada played against Brazil where Canada was able to squeak by the Brazilians with the 75-71 victory. In Canada’s second contest overtime was needed to get by USA East. Canada was able to win the overtime period 12-7 and take the game 101-96.
