CANADA is on a quest to qualify for the 2010 World Championships in Turkey. The first stop is the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship taking place August 26- September 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

    MORE ON THE FIBA AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP:
    The FIBA Americas Championship, featuring 10 men's national teams, is one of five FIBA qualifying zone tournaments to determine the four men's teams from the Americas zone that will earn a qualification spot for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.

    Canada is assigned to ‘Group A’ along with Mexico, and will compete in other preliminary matches against the U.S. Virgin Islands (Aug. 28 – 4:00 p.m. ET), Uruguay (Aug. 29 – 4:00 p.m. ET) and Puerto Rico (Aug. 30 – 9:00 p.m. ET). ‘Group B’ consists of Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela.
