Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Rich Chambers as the head coach of the Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT) and the return of Carly Clarke as the head coach of the Cadette Women’s National Team (CWNT). Both bring a wealth of coaching expertise and a winning pedigree to Canada Basketball as the junior and cadette age groups prepare for the coming competitive season.

Coach Chambers of Port Moody, B.C., looks forward to his return to the helm of the JWNT. “The coaching staff is extremely excited to be getting the majority of the girls back into camp. We feel we have a group of young women who have the potential to play very well at this year’s World Championships and improve upon our strong showing at last summer’s FIBA Americas. Personally, I am glad for the opportunity to return to this team and I look forward to guiding this group of talented and skilled players as we look to develop athletes for the senior women’s national team program.”

Halifax, N.S. native Coach Clarke returns to the program she guided to a bronze medal at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships for Women – the first medal Canada has won at this prestigious event. "I am very honoured to have the opportunity and privilege to lead the Cadette Women's National Team again this summer.  This is an exciting time for Canadian Women's basketball, exemplified by the recent hiring of Senior Team coach Lisa Thomaidis. Canada Basketball is reaching new heights – and our cadette coaching staff takes great pride in being part of the development process of our young athletes to help attain our national team goals of reaching the podium at the World Championships and Olympic Games. It will no doubt be another exhilarating summer."

Rounding out the coaching staffs are returning assistants Donna Branch of Lethbridge, Alta. and Scott Edwards of Edmonton, Alta. for the JWNT.  Andre Desjardins of Gloucester, Ont. will return as one of the CWNT assistant coaches and will be joined by another assistant coach to be confirmed at a later date.  Jodi Gram of Markham, Ont. will serve as the CWNT video coach; while the JWNT video coach will be confirmed shortly.

Before these dedicated coaching teams return to the court for this summer’s competitive season, they will gather with invited athletes at Humber College’s North Campus for a National Age-group Assessment camp to be held March 29 to April 1.

This summer, the JWNT will participate in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships for Women taking place in Lithuania. The Tournament involving 16 countries from all FIBA zones will take place July 18 – 28. The CWNT will compete in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women in Mexico. The team will take the floor June 19-23.
