Brooks, Cooper named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (Nov. 6, 2023) - Dillon Brooks and Samantha Cooper have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 5.

After a sensational summer with the Senior Men’s National Team, Brooks has continued his sharp shooting to begin the 2023-24 NBA season. The product of Mississauga, Ont. had a strong week with the Houston Rockets, recording consecutive 20 and 26-point performances in a pair of wins over the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings. Brooks shot 5-7 from beyond-the-arc over the course of the games, while averaging six rebounds per game. The Oregon Ducks alumnus was named the best defensive player of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023 when he helped Canada to a bronze medal and a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games.

In her lone game of the week, Cooper tallied 20 of her team’s 69 points in EuroCup action with Keltern, who competes in Germany in the DBBL. Cooper was 7-13 from the field — including 3-6 from long — range while tallying four rebounds and an assist in a clash against Belgium’s Castors Braine. Cooper starred for Canada’s 3x3 Women’s National Team twice this past summer in both Fribourg, Switzerland and Debrecen, Hungary. The Sudbury, Ont. product starred for Canada at both the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup 2012 and FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup 2013.
