Edey, Swords Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ontario (April 9, 2024) - Zach Edey and Syla Swords have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for April 8-12.

It’s been a dominant year for Toronto’s Zach Edey, who recently won back-to-back AP and Naismith Player of the Year Awards. Edey led Purdue to the NCAA Championship Game against UConn, where they fell 75-60. After scoring a career-high 40 points against Tennesee last week, Edey finished with 37 points, ten rebounds, and two blocks. He finished first in the NCAA men’s basketball standings in scoring this season, averaging 25.2 points per game as a center.

The annual McDonald’s All-American Girls Game took place last week, with the East team dominating in a 98-74 win against the West team. Michigan commit Syla Swords showed out for the East team, putting up 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Swords is coming off a stellar career with the Long Island Lutherans, passing 1000 total career high school points. Earlier this winter, she also travelled with the Senior Women’s National Team to Sopron, Hungary, to help the Canadian team qualify for the Olympics.
