Scrubb, Ejim named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (May 29, 2023) - Thomas Scrubb and Yvonne Ejim have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for May 22-28.

Scrubb continues to shine overseas, as his season in Spain comes to a close with Monbus Obradoiro. The Richmond, B.C. product notched 15 points on 6-10 shooting, seven rebounds and two assists in a 102-72 win over Fuenlabrada in ACB Action last Tuesday. The Carleton Ravens alumnus is averaging 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds this season — his second season with Monbus Obradoiro. Scrubb was a part of the Canadian Senior Men’s National Team’s roster for all 12 of its FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers, helping the program finish 11-1 and earn a berth to this summer’s World Cup.

In her home province of Alberta, Ejim shined at Senior Women’s National Team training camp ahead of Canada’s exhibition contest against Japan on Friday night in Victoria. After averaging 16.8 points per game in her junior campaign at Gonzaga, Ejim was named a 2023 Becky Hammon Player of the Year finalist, an award presented to the nation’s top player in a mid-major conference. The Calgary product last suited up for her country this past summer where she was a part of Canada’s gold medal win at the inaugural GLOBL JAM last summer in Toronto.
