As the Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) continues its evaluative process for the team’s upcoming competitive season, Canada Basketball has announced the 14 players who will journey to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the 2013 Tuto Marchand Continental Cup. For personal reasons, Carl English of St. John’s, N.L. will be leaving the team and returning to Toronto.

Head coach Jay Triano spoke to the character and ability of English commenting that, “this is an unfortunate situation for Carl. He has been a mainstay with the program for several years and a strong influence on the team during training camp, but we will move forward without him. We will miss his scoring ability, veteran leadership and international experience.”

The next phase for the SMNT will see the team competing in the five-team Tuto Marchand Continental Cup. The competition, which runs from August 22 to 26, will feature Canada matching-up against Puerto Rico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and Brazil. Following the five-day tournament, Team Canada will set its sights upon the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men from August 30 to September 11 where the top four teams will qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
