GLOBL JAM shined an international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature women’s and men’s teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament live at Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally on Sportsnet.
Recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the GLOBL JAM men’s and women’s tournaments featured two pools of four teams each.
GLOBL JAM was the first international collaboration between Sportsnet and Canada Basketball who have joined forces on a multi-year partnership to grow the game of basketball from coast-to-coast.
The GLOBL JAM FESTIVAL presented by Tangerine Bank at Yonge-Dundas Square united fans on and off the court by celebrating the intersection of sport, art, and culture with a 3x3 community court, vendor market, food trucks, music and more.
In addition, the GLOBL JAM FESTIVAL also hosted the 3x3 Canada Quest Finals, as well as the Superfan & Friends Charity 3x3 Game with Canada Basketball Global Community Ambassador and Toronto Raptors Superfan, Nav Bhatia, will host alumni, celebrities, broadcasters and influencers in a fun and interactive game of 3x3.
Canada Basketball, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart), Sun Life and the City of Toronto teamed up to tip-off the week-long GLOBL JAM festivities with GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY where they announced six $10,000 grants to local and regional organizations who are committed to making an impact through basketball.
Fifty youth from the local community aged 9-12 participated in a series of basketball-related activities at Regent Park Athletic Grounds and led by coaches from Lay-Up, a community-based cost-free basketball program, as well as players from each of the teams.
The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place as part of a Legends Brunch in partnership with SLAM Canada at Ricarda's Restaurant in downtown Toronto.
Hosted by Paul Jones and featuring some of Canada’s most influential basketball players, coaches, officials and builders, the Legends Brunch was one of the culminating events of GLOBL JAM, a week-long celebration of basketball, community, and culture.
Alexis Eke is an illustrator and designer based in Toronto, Ontario. Alexis aims to increase the representation of black women in design and offer a space for deep reflection. Alexis is known for using lines in her art to reflect on how we express ourselves through words and actions. This custom designed trophy reflects the Global nature of the tournament while the lines on the trophy direct to Toronto as the home base of the event.
