“In these extraordinary times, it is a personal choice for our players and staff about whether to participate in this window,” said Glen Grunwald, President & CEO, Canada Basketball. "I would like to commend each and every one for their commitment to representing our country.”

Two of these games were rescheduled from November as the Senior Men’s National Team was unable to participate in the second window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers.

After extensive consultation with medical and other professionals, Canada Basketball has considered the health and safety protocols surrounding this window carefully and has worked with FIBA and the local organizing committee to address any outstanding questions and concerns regarding the protection and safety of all participants.

The Senior Men’s National Team will be tested daily for COVID-19, while FIBA and Canada Basketball have put in place a series of additional measures to protect the health and well-being of its athletes, coaches and staff.

“Our team for this window features a mix of veteran international players, as well as newcomers to the Senior Men's National Team, as we look to secure our spot in the FIBA AmeriCup 2022,” said Rowan Barrett, General Manager / Executive Vice-President, Senior Men's Program.

The FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers feature 16 teams from the Americas zone divided into four groups of four teams.  Teams will play each other twice during the qualifying phase.  The top three finishing teams in each Group will earn a qualifying berth in the FIBA AmeriCup 2022.

Canada (1-1) is currently fourth in Group C along with Cuba (1-2), Dominican Republic (3-1) and U.S. Virgin Islands (1-2).

Group A consists of Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela; Group B includes Brazil, Panama, Paraguay and Uruguay; and Group D includes Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the USA.
