17 Athletes Invited to U18 Women's National Team Tryouts & Training Camp
TORONTO, ON (June 22, 2016) - Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 17 athletes invited to the U18 women's national team tryouts and training camp, June 27th - July 8th at York university in Toronto, ON.
"We're looking forward to working with this group,” said Carly Clarke, head coach. Clarke takes the helm of the U18 team after leading the U16/17 team for five years. “It will be a competitive camp as we look to put together the best team to compete at the FIBA Americas in Chile and qualify for the 2017 U19 World Championships.”
Clarke (Ryerson) will be joined by assistants Ryan Thorne (McGill) and Claire Meadows (UBC Okanagan).
The group will train in Toronto prior to traveling to Valdivia, Chile for the 2016 U18 FIBA Americas from July 13th-17rd. The final 12-woman roster will be announced prior to the tournament.
In 2015, the U19 women’s national team finished 8th at the U19 FIBA World Championships. Canada is currently ranked 4th worldwide in the FIBA youth girls rankings.
