Andrew Wiggins and Taya Hanson named Toyota Players of the Week

Andrew Wiggins and Taya Hanson have been named the Toyota Players of the Week for December 28, 2020 – January 3, 2021.

Andrew Wiggins had an impressive week in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. In Golden States’ three games, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 21 points, grabbing six rebounds, two assists and shot 44 per cent from the three-point line. The 25-year-old from Vaughan, ON was selected first overall at the 2014 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he earned NBA Rookie of the Year honours in his inaugural season and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Wiggins joined the Warriors in February 2020. In 2015, Wiggins led the team in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game at the FIBA AmeriCup in Mexico City. He also earned two bronze medals with Canada at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship and FIBA U17 World Cup.

Taya Hanson led Arizona State University’s 56-53 comeback victory over the University of California, Berkley. Hanson, who’s currently in her junior year, made seven three-pointers to help turn the game around, tying an ASU record. She also added three steals, three assists and four rebounds to their win. The next day, the Kelowna, B.C. native scored 15 points against top-ranked Stanford. She entered the 2020-2021 season as the Sun Devil’s active career leader in 3-pointers with a total of 49. The 20-year-old has represented Canada since she was 15, competing in a number of FIBA events including the FIBA U16 Americas Women's Championship, FIBA U17 Women's World Cup, FIBA U18 Americas Women's Championship and most recently, at the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup in Thailand where she played all seven games and averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
