IRAPUATO, Mexico (June 23, 2025) – Canada earned a silver medal at the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2025 after falling to the United States 85-59 in Sunday’s final.
Canada battled throughout but was unable to overcome a tough shooting night and a high-pressure American defence. The team shot 29 per cent from the field and committed 23 turnovers, while the U.S. shot an efficient 47 per cent and outscored Canada 44-26 in the paint.
Avery Arije led Canada with 13 points, to go along with four rebounds in 27 minutes of actions. Her efforts throughout the tournament earned her a spot on the Tournament All-Star Five First Team, after averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Ashley Vande Ven added seven points, three rebounds and two steals in the final, and was named to the All-Tournament Second Team after averaging 8.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals across the competition.
Frances Vollett chipped in nine points and three rebounds, while Pippa Gibb contributed eight points, shooting 44 per cent from the floor.
The result marks another podium finish for Canada at the continental level, as Canada ends the tournament with a silver medal and a spot in next summers FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2026.
