TORONTO, Ont. (Aug. 14, 2023) - RJ Barrett and Tara Wallack have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Aug 7-13.

Barrett shined for the Senior Men’s National Team in a come-from-behind win over Germany to help claim the DBB Super Cup on Sunday in Hamburg. The Mississauga, Ont. product had a pair of big buckets in the final minute of regulation to tie the game at 101 apiece, before scoring six of his team-high 31 to help Canada emerge in overtime. He was a near-perfect 13-14 from the field, including 4-4 from beyond-the-arc. Barrett and Team Canada continue World Cup preparations ahead of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup this week with their final pair of exhibition games, as they take on Spain on Aug. 17 and Dominican Republic on Aug. 18 with both games set in Granada, Spain.

The South Surrey, B.C. product played a big role for Canada at GLOBL JAM, helping the team to a silver medal in the second edition of the tournament in Toronto. Wallack was back in the red-and-white not long after, suiting up for Canada’s U23 3x3 National Team at the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League 2023 Americas after making her 3x3 debut at last summer’s Commonwealth Games where Canada won gold. Wallack helped lead Canada to a Stop 6 win in the final Stop of Nations League with a 20-17 win over Puerto Rico. After her pair of National Team appearances, Wallack rejoined her collegiate team, the Washington State Cougars, where she starred on a European Tour in Croatia and Greece.
