Bell-Haynes, Alexander named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (Oct. 30, 2023) - Trae Bell-Haynes and Kayla Alexander have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Oct. 23-29.

Bell-Haynes, who is starring for Zaragoza in Spain’s ACB, helped his squad to a convincing 113-83 victory over Club Joventut Badalona on Saturday. The Toronto product scored 16 points on 5-6 shooting — including 3-3 from three — to go along with eight assists, three steals and two rebounds to earn ACB Player of the Week honours. Bell-Haynes notched a season-high 22 points in a FIBA Europe Cup win over Brindisi last week. The Vermont Catamounts alumnus was a part of Canada’s historic Senior Men’s National Team this past summer, where he helped the squad win a bronze medal and qualify for the first time since 2000.

Alexander continued her strong start to the 2023 season with Bourges, who compete in France’s LFB. Alexander, a product of Milton, Ont., scored 16 points on 7-15 shooting, and hauled in 17 rebounds to record a monster double-double in a 93-59 win over Grenewald to help Bourges move to 3-0 in Eurocup action. Alexander is in her second-straight season with Bourges after averaging more than 10 points per game with squad in the 2022-23 season. She last represented Canada this past summer at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup where she was named to the All-Star 5. Alexander was a part of Canada’s historic fourth-place finish at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 this past fall.
