Bennedict Mathurin and Keishana Washington named toyota canada players of the week for march 7-13

Bennedict Mathurin and Keishana Washington have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week from March 7 to March 13.

Huge week for Mathurin who led Arizona (NCAA) to a PAC12 Championship scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Montreal, QC native was named Most Outstanding Player of the PAC12 Tournament as well as PAC12 Player of the Year.  Arizona is the #1 seed of the South Region going into the Men’s Basketball NCAA March Madness Tournament this week. Before signing with the Arizona Wildcats, the 6’7” guard attended NBA Academy Latin America and was named an All-Star at the Basketball Without Borders Global event in Chicago during the 2020 NBA All-Star weekend. This past summer, Mathurin was a member of Canada’s U19 National Team who took the bronze medal at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup where he averaged 16.1 points, 4 rebounds and 48.8 percent from the floor for the tournament. 

In the conference tournament, Washington led Drexel (NCAA) to the finals averaging 22.7 points (47.5 FG%, 36 3FG%), 2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game across the three games. The 5’5” guard from Pickering, ON, attended Durham Elite high school before committing to Drexel University where in her freshman year, she was named to the CAA All-Rookie team. Washington competed with the Canadian National Team at the U18 FIBA Americas in 2018 and represented Team Ontario for three years, including at the Canada Summer Games in 2017.
