Brooks, Nurse named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (Sept. 11, 2023) - Dillon Brooks and Kia Nurse have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Sept. 4-10.

Brooks saved his best for last at the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023, putting on a performance for the ages. The Mississauga, Ont. product scored 39 points on 12-18 shooting — the most points in a single-game by a Canadian in Men’s World Cup history — helping Canada defeat USA 127-118 in the bronze medal game. The victory helped claim Canada’s first ever medal at the tournament. Brooks was sensational throughout for the Senior Men’s National Team, as the recently signed Houston Rockets forward was named the Best Defensive Player at the tournament.

Nurse put a bow on her first season with the Seattle Storm. The Hamilton, Ont. product had 19-point and 18-point performances in her final two games of the 2023 campaign for the Storm. Nurse shot 3-7 and 4-6 from beyond-the-arc in the pair of games in two of her best outings of the season. She last suited up for Canada at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 this past fall, where she helped lead Canada to a fourth-place finish.
