Canada's U16 men's national team punched their ticket to the FIBA U17 Men's Basketball World Cup 2026 with a commanding 96–70 victory over Mexico in the quarterfinals of the FIBA U16 AmeriCup 2025 in Juárez, Mexico.
Isaiah Hamilton led the charge with 27 points, eight rebounds, and five steals, continuing his standout performance throughout the tournament. Canada dominated early, establishing a 35–23 lead in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the game.
"I am proud of what the boys have accomplished, achieving one of our goals at this tournament," said head coach Chris Cheng. "The focus is now on Venezuela, who have been playing well throughout the tournament. We have to take what we've learned from each game so far and put our best foot forward tonight."
With this win, Canada remains undefeated in the tournament and continues its streak of qualifying for every U17 World Cup since the event's inception in 2010.
"We worked really hard as a team and we deserve to be where we are," said Hamilton. "See y'all in Turkey."
Canada will face Venezuela in the semifinals, aiming to secure a spot in the championship game.
