PANAMA CITY, Panama. (August 25, 2026) — Canada Basketball announced Monday the 15 athletes who will represent Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team during Window 4 of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers.

Canada will open the Second Round on the road against Panama on Thursday, August 27, at Arena Roberto Durán in Panama City. The team will then return home to face Argentina on Monday, August 31, at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City.

Canada enters Window 4 with a perfect 6-0 record and is one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the Americas Qualifiers, alongside Brazil.

The Canadians finished atop Group B in the First Round after earning home-and-away victories over Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and Jamaica. Canada closed the opening round with a pair of decisive wins in Hamilton, defeating Puerto Rico 110-84 and Jamaica 116-78 during the July qualifying window.

“That’ll be our 15-man crew coming into this window,” said Rowan Barrett, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of Men’s High Performance. “As you can see, there’s some continuity from our earlier windows, with these athletes coming back in, as well as several athletes who were not able to participate in the first window but are ready to do so now.

“We feel that it’ll be a strong group. Our focus is still the same: our plan is to win games and to qualify for the World Cup in 2027.”

Gordie Herbert will serve as head coach, with Jama Mahlalela, Nathaniel Mitchell and Hanno Möttölä joining him as assistant coaches.

THE ROAD TO QATAR 2027

Window 4 marks the beginning of the Second Round of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers.

The 12 teams that advanced from the First Round have been reorganized into two groups of six. Canada is now competing in Group F alongside Argentina, the Bahamas, Panama, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.

Canada carried its six First Round results into the new group and will not play the Bahamas or Puerto Rico again. Instead, Canada will face the three teams advancing from the former Group D — Argentina, Panama and Uruguay — once at home and once on the road over the final three qualifying windows.

The Americas qualification process features 16 national teams competing across six windows over 15 months, from November 2025 through February 2027. Each team plays two games per window.

During the First Round, the teams were divided into four groups of four and played each group opponent at home and on the road. The top three teams from each group advanced to the Second Round, with every First Round result carrying forward.

“It’s almost like a relay race, right?” Barrett said. “One guy’s got to carry the baton, get it to the next guy, and get it to the next guy to get it around the track. That’s a little bit of what this structure forces you to do, but we have managed it successfully and have been able to get the job done and qualify.”

At the conclusion of the Second Round, the top three teams in each group, along with the best fourth-place team, will qualify for the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027. 

Seven teams will represent the Americas at the World Cup, which will be held from August 27 to September 12, 2027, in Qatar.
