TORONTO (Sept. 14, 2026) – Canada Basketball announced Monday the launch of its inaugural U14 Club National Championships, a new national competition that will bring together boys’ and girls’ club programs from across the country in May 2027.

Scheduled for the May long weekend, the championships are expected to feature 64 teams — 32 in each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions — competing for national titles. 

The event will give hundreds of young athletes the opportunity to represent their clubs, compete against leading programs from other provinces and territories and, for many, experience a national championship for the first time.

The launch marks an expansion of Canada Basketball’s domestic competition pathway, establishing a national championship at the under-14 club level. The event is designed to connect club basketball communities across Canada while supporting the provincial and territorial competition structures that help young athletes develop.

Beyond the pursuit of a national title, the championships will emphasize competition suited to athletes’ stage of development, aligned with Canada Basketball’s Long-Term Basketball Development Model. The event will reinforce standards in coaching, officiating, safe sport and fair play, placing athlete development at the centre of the championship experience.

Club Nationals will also provide opportunities to identify athletes and coaches with potential for provincial, territorial and national high-performance programs, while supporting development pathways for coaches and officials.

The inaugural edition will feature the U14 age group, with boys’ and girls’ competitions running concurrently.

The host location and full event dates will be announced Monday, Sept. 21.
