TORONTO — Canada Basketball has unveiled its first-ever U17 and U18 Women’s National Team Watchlists, identifying athletes from across the country who are being considered for next summer’s national team programs.

The watchlists include more than 100 athletes representing every region of Canada, along with several Canadian athletes based in the United States. The lists will remain open and athlete evaluations will continue throughout the year.

“This watchlist reflects our commitment to a more transparent and coordinated approach to athlete identification,” said Steve Baur, General Manager and Vice-President, Women’s High Performance. “By working closely with provincial and territorial sport organizations, our coaches and our selection committee, we’re building a clearer and more consistent pathway for young athletes across the country.”

The creation of the U17 and U18 women’s national team watchlists marks a new step in Canada Basketball’s high-performance pathway, formalizing identification at the youth level and offering a more transparent look at the early stages of national team selection. The lists reflect ongoing talent identification conducted in collaboration with provincial and territorial sport organizations, national team coaches and Canada Basketball’s women’s high-performance staff.

Athletes named today are not guaranteed selection to future training camps or rosters. Additional athletes may be added as scouting and evaluations continue.
