Canada Basketball Women's National Championship action continues from Sherbrooke

SHERBROOKE, Quebec (August 3, 2022) -- In Day 3 action at the Canada Basketball 17U Women's National Championship, Nova Scotia came back from an early deficit to defeat Newfoundland and Labrador 72-59. Nova Scotia scored just 10 points in the opening quarter but bounced back in the second to take a one-point lead, 28-27 at the half.

Nova Scotia continued adding to its lead in the third quarter and went into the fourth leading by nine, 48-39. Lily Langille led the Nova Scotians with 16 points on 7-for-9 field goals while Lillian Fuller added 15 points in the win. Molly Healy led Newfoundland and Labrador with 16 points in the loss.

New Brunswick’s Clancy MacIntyre scored 16 points to go with nine rebounds to lead New Brunswick in a 91-57 win over Manitoba.

In a 57-51 victory for Alberta over Quebec, Kaitlyn Ferrier led all scorers with 19 points on 6-for-19 shooting. Brigitte Olson finished with 13 points for Alberta, including a huge three-pointer down the stretch.

British Columbia had four players reach double figures in a 79-43 win against Saskatchewan with Makena Anderson’s 17 points and eight rebounds leading the way. British Columbia shot 42 percent in the win while holding Saskatchewan to just 28 percent shooting.

In the second game of the day for both Newfoundland and Labrador and Manitoba, it was Team Manitoba to come out on top with a 74-48 victory. Taya Clark had a game-high 19 points for Manitoba.

In 15U Women’s Day 3 action Nova Scotia won a 56-55 thriller against British Columbia. After leading 41-28 heading into the fourth, Nova Scotia allowed British Columbia to get all the way back into the game as British Columbia opened the final quarter on a 12-3 run to trim Nova Scotia’s lead to just four with 7 minutes remaining.

As Avery Geddes and Moriah Jansen hit three of British Columbia’s four three-pointers in the game in the fourth quarter, British Columbia also took care of business at the free-throw line and regained a four-point lead, 53-49, with 4:24 remaining. Nova Scotia’s Gabriela Morash scored four straight points to tie the game again. With Nova Scotia trailing by a point with two minutes on the clock, Adison Lockhart scored on a driving layup with 1:16 remaining to give Nova Scotia the lead and the win.

Morash and Ally McLean scored 13 points apiece in the win. Jansen scored a game-high 22 points to go with 12 rebounds for British Columbia.

Eirny Erinugha had a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double for Alberta in a 68-43 victory over New Brunswick.

Newfoundland and Labrador outlasted Prince Edward Island in a 58-53 victory on Wednesday. The team overcame an 18-point performance from Prince Edward Island’s Harlow Hannams thanks to a monster 14-point, 16-rebound, double-double from Sophie Fowler who also added five assists, three steals and four blocked shots.

Manitoba’s Lillian Vande Graaf scored a game-high 16 points to lead her team in a 73-44 victory over Saskatchewan.
