GUANAJUATO, MEXICO (August 24, 2021) - Canada improved to 2-0 with 112-25 win over Costa Rica on the second day of the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship 2021.

Canada started off strong creating a comfortable 16 point lead by the end of the first, which was extended to a 34 point lead by halftime. The Canadians dominated on both ends of the court, but it was the offensive team work that helped them cruise past Costa Rica with ease.

"This team has been really unselfish with the ball - it's been so great to see a lot of movement," said head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul. "We just want keep building off this win."

Cassandre Prosper had another outstanding performance with 24 points and 9 rebounds. The landslide win was a team effort with Summer Bostock (14 points), Delaney Gibb (14 points), Kiera Pemberton (11 points) and Taija Sta Maria (10 points) each putting up double digits for Canada.

"I'm super excited," said Gibb on tomorrow's final game of the Group Phase. "Hopefully we'll be able to take our game to another level and it will help us get ready for playoffs."

Canada is back in action tomorrow against Puerto Rico at 12:30PM ET where they will attempt to finish group play undefeated.

"Every team here plays a little bit differently both offensively and defensively which forces us to stay sharp - so we are looking forward to another challenge tomorrow," said Jean-Paul on tomorrow's match-up.
