Canada defeats Mexico 85-49 for their first win at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2021

XALAPA, MEXICO (August 24, 2021) - In their second game of the Group Phase at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2021, Canada defeated Mexico 85-49 for their first win of the tournament.

Mikkel Tyne and Efeosa Oliogu led Canada in scoring with 15 points each in the win, while Jacob Theodosiou made a statement with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. 

"I thought we had a really great game today," said Theodosiou. "We bounced back from a tough loss against Argentina and made the corrections we needed to from yesterday."

On the defensive end, 7’6” Olivier Rioux came up big for Canada with an incredible 15 rebounds, with help from Char Yeiy who recorded 7 rebounds of his own.

"We need to bring what we did today into the game tomorrow and I think we'll be good against Brazil," Theodosiou said.

Canada is back to work tomorrow evening at 6:30PM to take on Brazil in their final game of group play.
