Brno, Czechia (July 19, 2026) – Canada finished fourth at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup, concluding the tournament with a 5-2 record.

Canada opened the tournament with a strong performance, going undefeated in the group stage to finish first in its group. In its final group stage matchup against New Zealand, Canada connected on 13 three-pointers, with Portia Reisen knocking down six of her nine attempts from beyond the arc while shooting 66.7 per cent from three-point range.

Following the group stage, Canada faced the host nation Czechia in the Round of 16 and delivered a dominant performance to advance to the quarterfinals. Canada then battled China in a tightly contested matchup, overcoming a late deficit to secure one of the most dramatic victories of the tournament. With 0.12 seconds remaining, China took the lead before Canada advanced the ball following a timeout. After missing their first attempt, Frances Vollett secured the offensive rebound and finished a baseline drive off the glass to give Canada the game-winning basket and send the team to the semifinals.

Canada faced the eventual champions, the United States, in the semifinal round but came up short. In the third-place game, Canada battled Australia but fell 64-57 to finish fourth overall at the tournament. Despite the result, Frances Vollett was named to the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup All-Star Five after averaging 13.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
