Canada improves to 4-0 in Group B with pair of road wins in Window 2 of FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027 Qualifiers

TORONTO (March 2, 2026) – Canada remained undefeated in the FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, earning a pair of road victories in Window 2 to improve to 4-0 in Group B.

Canada opened the window with a 96-85 overtime win over Puerto Rico Men's before defeating Jamaica 97-81 on March 1 in Kingston. With the two victories, Canada sits atop Group B at 4-0. Jamaica falls to 2-2, while Puerto Rico and the Bahamas are tied at 3-3.

Canada 96, Puerto Rico 85 (OT)

Canada outscored Puerto Rico 14-3 in overtime to secure a 96-85 victory in a game that featured 15 lead changes.

Marcus Carr delivered a career-high 35 points, shooting 11-for-23 (47.8 per cent) from the field and a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. He added a game-high nine assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes. Carr scored 11 points in overtime alone, helping Canada close the game on the defensive end.

Kyle Wiltjer added 18 points, four steals and three assists, including four consecutive points in overtime to give Canada the lead for good. Wiltjer finished with a +30 plus/minus rating.

Puerto Rico led for more than 24 minutes and built a 12-point advantage in the second quarter before Canada erased the deficit. Canada’s 9-0 run in the third quarter flipped a four-point deficit into a five-point lead, while key defensive plays from Charles Bediako and Jackson Rowe helped shift momentum late.

Both teams started overtime with the score even at 84-84 before Canada pulled away, holding Puerto Rico to only one field goal in the extra frame.

Canada 97, Jamaica 81

Canada closed Window 2 with a 97-81 win over Jamaica, leading wire-to-wire while shooting 50 per cent from three-point range as a team.

Carr once again led Canada with 17 points and seven assists. Wiltjer added 16 points on 50 per cent shooting, along with three steals. Bediako recorded 10 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.

Kassius Robertson provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Canada’s balanced scoring and efficient perimeter shooting allowed the team to control the tempo throughout, extending its unbeaten start in Group B play.
