Canada learns group-stage opponents for FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026

TORONTO (June 19, 2026) – Canada Basketball learned its path at the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 following Friday’s official draw, which placed Canada in Group B alongside host Mexico, the Philippines, and Senegal.

The tournament will take place August 17–23 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and represents the first qualifying step on the Road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Canada will face each opponent in its group once during round-robin play, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals. The winner of the tournament will earn a place in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2028, scheduled for February 2028.

Group A consists of Brazil, Argentina, New Zealand and South Sudan.

The eight-team event features nations that did not qualify for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 and provides an early opportunity to advance in the Olympic qualification process.

Canada will enter the competition following its Senior Women's National Team training camp in Montréal, Que., and Victoria, B.C. as preparations continue for a pivotal summer campaign.

While the winner in Guadalajara will secure direct qualification to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2028, all participating nations will remain eligible to qualify through their respective continental championships in 2027.

Additional schedule information for the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 will be announced by FIBA at a later date.
