Canada’s U18 Women’s National Team is headed to the semifinals at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2026 in Irapuato, Mexico, looking to remain undefeated.
Canada opened the tournament with a dominant 104-40 victory over Puerto Rico, with all 12 players contributing offensively. Savvy Swords led the way with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Gabby Morash, Chante Murray, Kaylen Sta. Maria, Alex Newson and Jordyn Wheeler also reached double figures in scoring.
Canada followed with an 96-46 win over the Dominican Republic. After leading by just five points at the end of the first quarter, Canada took control in the second half, outscoring the Dominican Republic 25-4 in the third quarter and 26-9 in the fourth. Swords recorded 19 points and nine rebounds, while Wheeler added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Canada capped off the group stage with a 104-63 win over Venezuela, securing top spot in Group A, a direct berth in the semifinals and qualification for the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2027. Wheeler led all scorers with 23 points, while Murray added 17. Swords and Brooke McLeod each posted double-doubles, with McLeod collecting 15 rebounds.
Canada now turns its attention to the semifinals, where they will face Argentina on Sunday, June 14th at 7:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM PT. A victory would send Canada to Monday’s gold-medal game (time to be determined).
