Shanghai, China (Sept. 15, 2025) – Canada’s 3x3 women’s national team captured its third FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Final title Sunday, defeating Azerbaijan 21-12 in Shanghai.
Fresh off a win in Bordeaux two weeks earlier, Canada opened pool play with a 21-13 victory over Azerbaijan, led by Bordeaux MVP Saicha Grant-Allen (seven points, three rebounds) and Katherine Plouffe (six points, three rebounds).
Heavy rain forced schedule changes, with Canada dropping a narrow 16-15 decision to CS Rapid Bucharest before bouncing back to beat Netherlands U25 17-9 behind Plouffe’s seven points and eight rebounds and Paige Crozon’s six points and six rebounds. The result put Canada first in Pool B and through to the semifinals.
In the semifinal, Canada cruised past Spain 21-11 to set up a rematch with Azerbaijan in the final. Crozon scored a tournament-high nine points in the championship game, while Cassandra Brown sealed the win with a two-pointer.
“It’s amazing to be a part of this group,” said Grant-Allen. “There have been teams of girls paving the way for us, and it’s awesome to build on that foundation and keep growing it for Canada Basketball.”
Grant-Allen’s consistent play earned her another tournament MVP honour, though she credited her teammates for the team’s success.
“I feel just as excited about our win as I do about MVP,” she said. “These girls are so selfless, and it takes that for anything to work. The MVP is a bonus, but the championship is what matters most.”
Crozon and Plouffe finished second and third in player value, with Plouffe also tying for the tournament lead in rebounds (31).
Canada closed out the 2025 Women’s Series atop the standings with 330 points, winning stops in Edmonton, Bordeaux and Shanghai, finishing second in Amsterdam and fifth in Ulaanbaatar.
