DEBRECEN, Hungary (Aug. 28, 2023) – Canada's 3x3 Women’s National Team fell to Lithuania 18-15 in a hard-fought quarterfinal battle at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Debrecen Stop on Monday.

Canada was represented by Keishana Washington, Cassandra Brown, Samantha Cooper and Saicha Grant-Allen in Hungary, advancing to the quarterfinals after going undefeated on Sunday.

Despite six points apiece for Washington and Brown, Canada was unable to overcome an eight-point Lithuania advantage. The Canadians ran out of time to complete a comeback after a late push and two-pointer from Washington brought Canada within three with 25 seconds remaining.

Monika Grigalauskyte grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for Lithuania as they outrebounded Canada 20-16 in the win. She also had six points to lead her team.

The game was close early, with the teams trading baskets and ties. A two-pointer from Brown tied the game at nine points apiece with 5:52 remaining, but a three-minute scoring drought for Canada flipped the game. Lithuania scored eight straight points to build a 17-9 lead after a two-pointer from Dalia Donskichyte with 3:02 remaining. Washington did her best to bring Canada back, making free throws and then a two-pointer to get Canada back within three with 23 seconds remaining, but the Canadians were up against the clock and couldn’t overcome their earlier shooting woes.

Up next for Canada will be the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Montreal stop beginning on Saturday, Sept. 2nd, as Michelle and Katherine Plouffe, as well as Kacie Bosch and Paige Crozon re-enter the fold as the squad competes in its final Stop ahead of the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Ulaanbaatar Final.
