TORONTO (Dec. 9, 2024) – Canada Basketball announced Monday the Canadian 3x3 Men’s and Women’s National Teams who will represent Canada at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2024 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup will be held Dec. 12-15, 2024. Fans can stream all the action live on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube channel.

Round-robin action at the 3x3 AmeriCup for both the 3x3 Men’s and Women’s National Team’s is set for Friday, before quarter-final and medal round action concludes the event on Sunday.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our 3x3 athletes to compete against the best teams in the Americas,” said Ron Yeung, Head of Domestic & 3x3 Development.

The event reunites three of the four Canadians who starred in the 2024 Olympic Games this summer in Kacie Bosch, Paige Crozon and Katherine Plouffe. The trio helped Canada to a fourth-place finish in Paris in the country’s first-ever appearance in 3x3 basketball at the Olympics.

Crozon and Plouffe are currently ranked second and third overall, respectively, in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Individual Rankings.

Joining them on the 3x3 Women’s National Team in San Juan will be Saicha Grant-Allen. The Hamilton-native competed at the event in 2023, alongside Bosch and Crozon, helping Canada to a bronze medal. She suited up in one FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Stop this past season, representing Team Calgary in Springfield, Mass.

"Following a two-month break after the conclusion of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, our team is eager to get back on the court. After narrowly missing the chance to defend their AmeriCup title in 2023, Katherine, Paige, Kacie, and Saicha are more determined than ever to claim victory in San Juan,” said Yeung.

The 3x3 Women’s National Team will be looking to win the country’s second-ever 3x3 AmeriCup title after winning it all in Miami two years ago. Canada has never finished lower than third-place at the 3x3 Women’s AmeriCup, medalling in each of three events since its inception in 2021.

Canada is ranked No. 2 in the event, setting them up in Pool B alongside Mexico, and Jamaica.

After 11 athletes took part in a 3x3 men’s training camp a week ago in Toronto, Grant Audu, Jerome Desrosiers, Marek Klassen and Steve Sir earned the four spots.

Sir, who is the highest ranked Canadian in the FIBA 3x3 Men’s Individual Rankings at No. 62, represented Canada at the inaugural 3x3 AmeriCup back in 2021. Sir suited up in 16 events this past season with Team Ulaanbaatar, including nine on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

This event will serve as Dersoisers second appearance with the 3x3 Men’s National Team, with the Hawaii Rainbow alumnus suiting up for Canada this past spring at the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary. Desroiers, who frequents on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour with Team Princeton, is ranked No. 80 in the FIBA 3x3 Men’s Individual Rankings and second among Canadian men.

Klassen, who was invited to the Senior Men's National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2022, will now get the chance to suit up in the FIBA 3x3 Men’s AmeriCup more than two years later and make his National Team debut.

Also joining Klassen in making his Team Canada debut is Audu, who played four seasons with the UBC Thunderbirds (2018-2022), before embarking on a pro career that included stops with the Vancouver Bandits (CEBL) and overseas in Finland.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what Marek, Jerome, Steve, and Grant can accomplish as a team. We just wrapped up a highly productive training camp this past weekend in Toronto, and the energy is high,” said Yeung.

"I’m confident this team will be a strong contender in San Juan, giving Canada an excellent opportunity to secure its first-ever podium performance at the FIBA Men’s 3x3 AmeriCup."

The 3x3 Men’s National Team will be looking for its first-ever podium finish in the event which began in 2021. Canada finished seventh in 2023 after falling in overtime 16-15 to Brazil in a quarterfinal clash last December.

Entering the event as the No. 3 seed, Canada will share Group C with Argentina and one of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Costa Rica, who will compete in qualifying draw action for a berth in the event.

Canada is currently ranked 8th (Women), 19th (Men) and 13th (Combined) in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.
