MIES, Switzerland (March 4, 2020) - FIBA has decided, after careful consideration, to postpone the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualification Tournament due to the ongoing developments of the COVID-19 virus.

Canada’s men previously qualified for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualification Tournament based off their Federation Ranking.

The FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualification Tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Bengaluru, India, from March 18 to 22, 2020.

FIBA is now working in close collaboration with the International Olympic Committee, on the best solution possible in the circumstances, considering that this tournament needs to take place before the FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifier Tournament scheduled to be played in Budapest, Hungary, from April 24 to 26, 2020.

In addition to the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualification Tournament, FIBA also announced Wednesday that the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cups have also been rescheduled, while the FIBA U16 Asian Championships have been cancelled.  In addition, Basketball Africa League (BAL) has postponed the league’s inaugural season, which had been scheduled to tip off Friday, March 13 in Dakar, Senegal.

FIBA will continue to monitor the situation closely and will not hesitate to implement any further measures should they be required.
