Gilgeous-Alexander, Amihere named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (Nov. 13, 2023) - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Laeticia Amihere have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Nov, 6-12.

It was an incredible week for Gilgeous-Alexander, who in four games this week, led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 3-1 record  thanks to wins over Phoenix, Cleveland and Atlanta. The Hamilton, Ont. product averaged more than 35 points per game over the four contests, highlighted by a 43-point performance in the win over the Cavaliers in which he added six assists and seven rebounds. The Kentucky Wildcats alumnus was a star for Canada this summer, earning FIBA World Cup All-Star status after leading the Senior Men’s National Team to a bronze medal and berth in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.


Suiting up for the Senior Women’s National Team for the first time since the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 where she helped Canada to a historic fourth-place finish, Amihere returned to the lineup with a bang. The Mississauga, Ont. product averaged 9.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game — helping Canada finish 3-0 at the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Colombia. Canada will now take on Spain, Japan, and Hungary in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament from February 8-11, 2024 in Sopron, Hungary, with the top three teams earning tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
