Jamal Murray and Nirra Fields named Toyota Players of the Week for February 22-28

Jamal Murray and Nirra Fields have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for February 22-28. 

Murray, originally from Kitchener, had an explosive week in the NBA averaging 28 points, six assists and four rebounds across three games for the Denver Nuggets. The 24-year-old recently made history after becoming the first NBA player to score 50 points without trying a free throw against the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 19th. So far this season, Murray has averaged 21.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. During the 2020 NBA Playoffs, Murray solidified himself as a star with an average of 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists in 19 games. For his efforts on the court, he was named the winner of the "Breakout of the Year'' award at the 2020 Sports Illustrated Awards. Murray last represented Canada at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, where he helped lead them to a silver medal.  

Nirra Fields led her team, Antalya, to a victory over Bursa with 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 steals to earn her POTW title. The 27-year-old from Lachine, Quebec has represented Canada since 2009. As an age group player, she became the first female Canadian to be named to the McDonald’s All-American Game during her senior year of high school. After graduation, she attended UCLA where she was a three-time All-Pac-12 honouree and ended her career on eight top 10 all-time lists including scoring, steals and 20-point games. Fields went on to be drafted 32nd overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2016 WNBA Draft before moving her career overseas. Internationally, she has helped Canada win gold at the 2015 Pan American Games, 2015 FIBA Americas Women’s Championship and and the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2017. She also represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
