Jamal Murray wins "Breakout of the Year'' award at Sports Illustrated Awards

TORONTO, Ont. (December 20, 2020) - Denver Nuggets guard and member of Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team, Jamal Murray, was named the winner of the "Breakout of the Year'' award last night at this year's Sports Illustrated Awards.

"You dream of being great,'' Murray said after the award was announced. "You dream of being the best version of yourself. So, I don't see myself stopping there.''

Originally from Kitchener, Ont., Murray exploded in the 2020 NBA Playoffs, averaging 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists in 19 games.  In 59 regular season games, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

Murray last led Canada to a silver medal at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.  Previously, he represented Canada on the international stage at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Men and the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men.
