Canadian centre Kayla Alexander helped lift Valencia Basket to the 2024–25 Liga Femenina Endesa championship on Sunday, earning Finals MVP honours after a standout performance in a 71–63 win over Casademont Zaragoza.
Alexander, a native of Milton, Ont., scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the decisive game, controlling the paint at both ends in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,857 at Príncipe Felipe Pavilion. The win sealed Valencia’s third consecutive Spanish league title and completed a domestic double following their Supercopa victory in October.
The 6-foot-4 forward was a force throughout the playoff run, and her play in the final series was instrumental in Valencia's sweep. Her ability to establish deep post position, alter shots defensively and crash the glass proved too much for Zaragoza, who were competing in their first-ever league final.
Alexander's MVP award adds another accolade to an already accomplished international career. A two-time Olympian (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020), she helped Canada finish fourth at the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Sydney — the country’s best result at the tournament since 1986.
In December 2024, Alexander was inducted into the Syracuse University Hall of Fame, where she remains the program’s all-time leader in points, rebounds and blocks. She was selected eighth overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Stars and has played professionally in France, Australia, Poland, Russia and Spain.
Sunday's title win further establishes Alexander as one of Canada’s most consistent front-court presences overseas, and caps a season that also saw Valencia reach the EuroLeague Women semifinals for the first time in club history.
