Kennedy, Washington named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (February 21, 2023) -  Thomas Kennedy and Keishana Washington have been named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for February 13 - 19.

Kennedy made history this past weekend with the Windsor Lancers men’s basketball team (U SPORTS). The fourth-year forward became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,479 points. The Windsor, Ont. product recorded a double-double in both of his games this week, including a 31-point, 16-rebound outing in the team’s 89-70 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday night. Kennedy and the Lancers are the No. 3 seed in the OUA playoffs and will tip off their quest for the Wilson Cup on Saturday in Windsor against either the Guelph Gryphons or Lakehead Thunderwolves. He suited up for Canada this summer at GLOBL JAM in Toronto, and later made his debut with the Senior Men’s National Team at the 2022 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup, before joining the team once again during the fifth window of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Washington continued to show out for the Drexel Dragons women’s basketball team (NCAA). She had back-to-back games of 30-plus points, including a 40-point performance in the team’s win on Sunday over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens — her third 40-point outing of the season. Washington, who last suited up for Canada in the U18 FIBA Americas in Mexico, became just the eighth Canadian-born player to eclipse the 2,000 point plateau in NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball. She was named to the Dawn Staley Award Later Season Watch List last week, which is awarded to the top guard in NCAA basketball. The Dragons have just three games remaining prior to the start of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, which kicks off Mar. 8 in Towson, Md.
