Krikke, Nurse named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (February 14, 2023) - Ben Krikke and Kia Nurse have been named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for February 6-12.

Krikke continued to build upon his standout senior year with the Valparaiso Beacons (NCAA), averaging 24 points-per-game and 3.5 rebounds per-game in his team’s pair of games this past week. In the Beacons 81-76 win over Illinois St. on Saturday, Krikke moved to 11th in points program history with 1,483. The Edmonton, Alta. product leads Valpo in both points and rebounds per-game this season, as the Beacons wind down their regular-season campaign. He last donned the red-and-white during the 2018 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup where Canada finished fourth.

Nurse starred for the Senior Women’s National Team in France, where Canada took part in a seven-day training camp. Nurse led Canada in their exhibition game against ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq, who play in FFBB LFB (Ligue Feminine de Basketball), registering 29 points on 10-14 shooting, including 6-10 from three-point range. The Hamilton, Ont. product, who recently signed with the Seattle Storm for the upcoming WNBA season, also chipped in 10 rebounds and four assists. Nurse represented Canada this fall at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia, where she helped her country to a fourth-place finish.
