Kyle Alexander and Shaina Pellington named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for March 14-20

Kyle Alexander and Shaina Pellington have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week of March 14 to March 20.

In Arizona’s first round win, Pellington led the Wildcats with 30 points (10/19 FG), while also adding 4 assists and 4 steals. Pellington, from Pickering, ON, was ranked as the number 5 international prospect and top international guard before playing for the University of Oklahoma (NCAA) and was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2018. After playing two seasons with Oklahoma, Pellington transferred to the University of Arizona (NCAA) where she is currently in her senior year. Pellington has represented Team Canada for over 6 years, most notably leading the U16 team to a gold medal at the FIBA Americas Tournament in 2015, and most recently playing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this past summer. 

Alexander led Fuenlabrada (Spain) to a win over UCAM Murcia on March 19 scoring a season high 30 points, along with 9 rebounds, shooting 11/14 from the field (including 2/2 from 3PT and 6/6 from FT). The forward attended University of Tennessee (NCAA) where as a senior, he averaged 7.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 23.8 minutes per game and helped lead the team to the Sweet Sixteen. The Milton, ON native spent some time in the NBA G-League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce and signed a 2-way contract with the Miami Heat (NBA) in January 2020. In December 2020, Alexander then signed with Fuenlabrada of the Spanish Liga ACB where he averaged 9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in his first season and re-signed with the team for the current season. Alexander most recently represented team Canada at the last two window's of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers, helping Canada secure a 4-0 record heading into the second round of the tournament.
