Kyle Wiltjer and Aaliyah Edwards Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for February 21-27.

Kyle Wiltjer and Aaliyah Edwards have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week from February 21-27.

This past weekend at the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers, Wiltjer averaged 21.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over two games against the Dominican Republic and U.S. Virgin Islands. Wiltjer received Toyota Canada Drive of the Game honours for his performance against the U.S. Virgin Islands and was named to the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas top 5 performers list for the second window. During his collegiate career, Wiltjer spent two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before transferring to play with the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2014-16. The 6’10” forward signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets before taking his talents overseas in 2017, where he is currently playing in Spain with Lenovo Tenerife. Wiltjer first represented Canada at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men and most recently appeared in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China, and at the last two windows of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers. 

In Uconn’s (NCAA) two wins this week over Marquette and St. John’s University, Aaliyah started for the Huskies and averaged 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals per game. The 6’3” guard from Kingston, ON attended Crestwood Prep College before signing to University of Connecticut, where in her rookie year last year she was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team and was named the BIG EAST Sixth-Woman of the year. Previously, Edwards has played over 30 games for team Canada since 2017, most recently representing Canada at the FIBA Women’s Americup 2021 and making her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was the youngest player on the team.
