Kyle Wiltjer and Kayla Alexander Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for May 2-8

Kyle Wiltjer and Kayla Alexander have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week of May 2-8.

It was a huge weekend at the Basketball Champions League Final Four this past weekend for Wiltjer, Leading Lenovo Tenerife (Spain) to the championship, scoring 17 points in 25 minutes in the final game and capturing the championship title. During his collegiate career, Wiltjer spent two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before transferring to play with the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2014-16. The 6’10” forward signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets before taking his talents overseas in 2017, where he is currently playing in Spain with Lenovo Tenerife. Wiltjer first represented Canada at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men and most recently appeared in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China, and at the last two windows of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers. 

In Lyon’s (LNB) game 1 victory in the quarter final against Roche, Alexander scored 16 points (5/8 FG, 6/6 FT), while adding 7 rebounds and an assist.The Milton native played for Syracuse University (NCAA) where she was named the Syracuse all-time leading scorer as the first player to surpass over 2,000 career points (2,024), leader in blocks (350), field goals (736), free throws made (552) and games played (140). Selected in the first round 8th overall at the 2013 WNBA draft, Alexander has played dozens of games with Team Canada over the last 6 years, and most recently represented Canada at the 2021 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and helped the Senior Women’s National team qualify for the 2022 Women’s World Cup this past february in Osaka.
