Kyle Wiltjer and Natalie Achonwa named Toyota Players of the Week for January 18-24

Kyle Wiltjer and Natalie Achonwa have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for January 18-24.

Kyle Wiltjer had an explosive performance with Turk Telekom in a domestic league win over Bahcesehir. The 28-year-old put up 35 points, five rebounds, and shot nine three-pointers in his 32 minutes on the court. His team currently sits in fourth place in the BSL standings. During his collegiate career, Wiltjer spent two seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before transferring to play with the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2014-16. Three years later, the 6-foot-4 forward signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets before taking his talents overseas in 2017. Wiltjer first represented Canada at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men and most recently appeared in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China.

Elsewhere in Europe, Natalie Achonwa led Schio to a win with 28 points, eight rebounds and two assists from the EuroLeague bubble. Before heading overseas to play in Italy, the WNBA star completed her sixth season with the Indiana Fever. Achonwa most recently represented Canada at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament last February, where she helped punch their ticket to Tokyo 2020. The two-time Olympian averaged 13.3 points per game and was selected to the tournament’s All-Star Five. Achonwa has been a member of the Senior Women’s National Team program for the past decade after making history as the youngest player ever selected at age 16.
