Late-game drama takes centre stage as Day 3 of U15 & U17 Women’s National Championships delivers thrilling finishes
THE RUNDOWN
Day three of the 2026 U15 and U17 National Championships saw some of the tournament’s most thrilling games, as eight matchups across both women’s divisions took place at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec on Wednesday.
NOTEWORTHY
- The host province’s own Eve St-Onge forced overtime in a U17 quarter-finals clash with British Columbia thanks to a steal and quick drive to the basket in the final seconds. However, BC swiftly responded, holding Quebec to just six points against their 13 in the extra five minutes.
- Saskatchewan's U15 women nearly pulled off the comeback of the tournament. Trailing by double digits in the first half, Saskatchewan stormed back behind Araya Levy's 15 points and 11 rebounds. A 10-0 run in the fourth quarter trimmed the deficit to three, but Nova Scotia weathered the surge to hold on for the victory in one of the tournament's most thrilling contests.
- Quarter-finals action continues in Sherbrooke tomorrow as Ontario is set to take on Nova Scotia in U15 women’s action, with the winner advancing to face British Columbia in the semifinals. Rounding out quarter-final play are Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta, who will battle for a spot in the semis against the host province, Quebec.
- The U17 Women also continue their quest to the championship as Ontario will meet with New Brunswick in quarter-final action for a chance to face British Columbia in the semis. Manitoba and Alberta will close out quarter-final play – the winner will take on Nova Scotia.
