Canada has opened the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers with a perfect 4-0 record, sweeping the Bahamas in Window 1 before earning road victories over Puerto Rico and Jamaica in Window 2. The strong start comes on the heels of the program’s most successful FIBA Men’s World Cup performance, as Canada captured bronze in 2023 with a victory over the United States in Manila.
Dillon Brooks was named the tournament’s Best Defensive Player, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was selected to the FIBA World Cup All-Star Five.
The FIBA Men's World Cup 2027 is set to be held in Qatar next summer. The qualification format remains unchanged from the previous cycle, featuring six windows over a 15-month period across the four FIBA regions: Africa, Americas, Asia (including Oceania), and Europe.
