QUEBEC CITY, Quebec (Aug. 19, 2023) – Canada’s 3x3 Women’s National Team are victorious on home soil once again. A two-pointer from Michelle Plouffe gave Canada the 21-19 victory over the USA U24 team in the final of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Quebec stop victory.

This is Canada’s fourth series stop victory of the season, after previously recording wins in Poitiers, Edmonton and Prague. Michelle Plouffe and Katherine Plouffe were named event stop Co-MVP’s after dominating through the stop as they led Canada to an undefeated weekend alongside Paige Crozon and Jamie Scott.

Michelle Plouffe led all scorers at the event with 33 points. She also was first in highlights (18), and key assists (15). Katherine Plouffe finished first in rebounds per game (8.3), offensive rebounds (12), and second in total rebounds (33), and key assists (9).

In the final, Michelle had nine points, six rebounds and six highlights, including that two-pointer to seal the victory with 59.1 seconds remaining on the clock.

Katherine added four points and seven rebounds in the win, as she recorded more offensive rebounds (5) than the entire USA squad (4).

The USA U24 Team was led by Cameron Brink’s six-point, seven-rebound, five-highlight performance, as well as five points and five highlights from Hailey Van Lith in the loss.

The final was a battle as neither team wanted to give their opponent an inch. With Canada leading by a point, Brink was called for a technical foul, leading to a free throw for Paige Crozon. This kicked off four straight points by the Canadians, but a three-point play by Brink brought the USA back within two points.

Canada led by five, 19-14 with 2:38 remaining. From there, the USA squad scored five straight points to tie the game at 19 points apiece with 1:13 remaining, but Michelle Plouffe was ready to close out the weekend with a win, so she did, drilling her two-pointer as the shot clock ran down to give Canada the win and the series stop title.

Earlier in the day, Canada defeated Italy 20-14 in the semifinals behind Michelle Plouffe’s 12-point, six-rebound performance. Katherine Plouffe added a game-high nine rebounds to go with six points as Canada quickly pulled away to take control.

After Italy’s Laura Spreafico trimmed Canada’s lead to two, 6-4, back-to-back buckets from Michelle Plouffe and Paige Crozon kicked off a 7-0 run for the Canadians who opened up a 13-4 lead with 4:30 remaining and easily went on to victory from there.

Next up for the Canadians will be the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Debrecen Stop in Hungary that kicks off on Aug. 27.
