NURSE, KAJAMI-KEANE NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO (May 12, 2026) — Kia Nurse and Kaza Kajami-Keane have been named Players of the Week for May 4-10.

Eight-year WNBA veteran and Hamilton native Nurse signed with the Toronto Tempo ahead of the franchise’s inaugural season, bringing leadership and experience to Canada’s first WNBA team. In the Tempo’s first pre-season game against the Connecticut Sun, Nurse scored the first basket in franchise history — the first points scored by a Canadian for a Canadian WNBA team. The Tempo opened their regular season against the Washington Mystics on Friday, May 8, in front of a packed crowd, with Nurse surrounded by support from fans, friends and family. Nurse last suited up for Canada with the Senior Women’s National Team at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 qualifying tournament in Istanbul, Türkiye, in March.

The six-foot-one guard from Ajax, Ont., Kajami-Keane continues to build an impressive professional career overseas with Basketball Löwen Braunschweig of Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga. Kajami-Keane recorded 26 points and three rebounds against BV Chemnitz 99 on May 10, shooting 56 per cent from the field, including five-for-nine from three-point range. His strong performances continue to highlight his growth as one of the top Canadian guards competing internationally. Kajami-Keane last suited up for Canada with the Senior Men’s National Team during two FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2026 qualifier games in February.
